Old/Terminally Ill Hospice & Palliative Care

Anticipatory grief can begin as early as when your beloved pet is aging

Animal Hospice and Palliative Care is a new, but growing area of pet health and support services.

Animal Hospice and Palliative Care Providers (AHPCPs)  can provide invaluable support to you  if you are coping with a pet nearing the end of life.

Certified veterinarians and technicians are trained not only in managing your pet’s pain but also in addressing your emotional and social needs during this time.  An AHPCP will engage in  open, non-judgmental conversations with you, guiding and supporting your family to minimize regrets. They can help you create meaningful bucket lists for your pet’s remaining days, providing some hope and control in an otherwise unpredictable situation.

Caring for an aging or very ill pet is both physically and emotionally exhausting. These professionals offer a safe, supportive space for you to express your fears, thoughts, feelings, and stresses, providing validation and acknowledgment that can be enormously comforting. They can also provide valuable insights into the trajectory of your pet’s illness, helping to reduce anxiety by setting realistic expectations and aiding in informed decision-making.

AHPCPs can also assist with:

  • The physical aspects of caregiving, such as administering medications, changing bandages, and feeding.
  • Creating an end-of-life plan and
  • Developing coping strategies for the inevitable loss, ensuring you and your pet are supported every step of the way.
